Canadian author Margaret Atwood is the recipient of the 2016 Golden Wreath of the Struga Poetry Evenings (SPE), the festival said on Monday.

Atwood, 76, is a poet, novelist, literary critic, essayist and environmental activist, which work focuses mainly on issues related to feminism.

Atwood is the laureate of Canada’s highest literary awards and a number of international awards, including the 2000 Booker Prize for her novel “The Blind Assassin”.

The Golden Wreath will be presented to Atwood at this year’s 55th SPE, held by the end of August in Struga. Margaret Atwood is the third female SPE laureate after Desanka Maksimovic in 1988 and Nancy Morejon in 2006.
