DUI Leader Does Not Rule out Option to Form Coalition with VMRO-DPMNE
The DUI President in an interview with TV 21 did not rule out the possibility of DUI forming a coalition with VMRO-DPMNE. He said that all options remain open, and added that the decision is to be reached in the upcoming period within the party's body, but he is to have the final say. Ahmeti considers several options, including a coalition with their former partner, a coalition with SDSM, a broad coalition, being part of the opposition and new elections.
He highlighted that the decisions are to be reached in a sober and rational manner, without any euphoria. According to him, VMRO-DPMNE is 100% supported by Macedonian voters, whereas the same cannot be said about SDSM, and this has to be respected.
Ahmeti said that he still remembers the injustice done to DUI at the 2006 elections, when VMRO-DPMNE did not respect the will of the Albanian citizens, and his party, although winning the elections among the Albanian voters, was not a part of the government.
As a result of this, the May Agreement was signed which states that the government-forming coalition is to include the winning Macedonian and the winning Albanian party.
"VMRO-DPMNE is a political force with greater capacity than SDSM, and it has almost 100% Macedonian voters," said Ahmeti.
He says that two years ago when he stated that Ukraine is not that far away from Macedonia, people were joking with the statement, but later it was confirmed that a political force in the country wanted to create conflict between the different ethnic groups.
"I will not have a partner who tries to stir ethnic conflict," said Ahmeti.
